Ministry of Foreign Affairs Organising Virtual Forum for Global Estonians

On 13 April, the first virtual forum for Estonians around the world will be held, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presenting its activities and plans concerning the diaspora.

The Joint Baltic American National Committee (JBANC) held its first virtual Baltic Advocacy Week from March 8th to 12th. 


JBANC has been holding annual in-person advocacy events for several years but missed last year because of the coronavirus.

The Boston Baltic Film Festival (BBFF) was launched in 2018, when Boston's Baltic organizations jointly celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Baltic states. 

Foreign Ministry Survey: Estonians Abroad Wish to Participate in Estonia's Development

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducted a survey among Estonians living abroad to find out how significantly matters related to their homeland figure in their daily lives.


They also wanted to know what they expect from the state, so that their wish to contribute to helping to achieve Estonia's future goals might increase.

A masters student at the Estonian Academy of Arts  has won the best animation award at the Palm Springs International Animation Festival.

"You Are Not a Kiwi" created using watercolors by Maria Savaleva premiered in the festival's main program and won in the watercolor-animation category.

A bill terminating a bilateral investment treaty with Finland has passed its first Riigkogu reading.


The treaty would have likely infringed European Union law, in treating some member states (i.e. Finland and Estonia) differently from the remainder.

The protection of investments and investors from other EU member states is regulated by EU law, rendering bilateral agreements between member states irrelevant and contrary to protecting investor rights from any of the 25 other EU member states.

West Sand Lake - Eve Maire Rebassoo was a strong, independent woman.


Her life marked by adversity, devotion to her Estonian heritage, and giving all of herself for her children and grandchildren.

Eve arrived to Villem and Aliide Ilves Dec. 15, 1941 in the Baltic Sea village Kuressaare on the idyllic island of Saaremaa, Estonia.

New restrictions affecting schools, shops, restaurants and public events enter into force today (March 11) and will stay in place until at least Aprill 11.

The goal of the restrictions is to reduce contacts between people, to get the spread of the coronavirus under control in Estonia, and ensure Estonia's health care system's ability to function.



The 2+2 rule will have to be followed outside as well
