Estonian Embassy in Washington Undergoing Reconstruction
Estonian Embassy in Washington, DC. Source: ERR
Reconstruction work will start at the Estonian embassy in Washington, D.C., which will last for at least 18 months.
The renovation has been expected for years as power, heating and cooling systems are all considered old and dangerous.
The building in midtown Washington, D.C., was originally built in 1903 by a doctor as a personal residence, ETV's weekly current affairs show "Aktuaalne Kaamera. Nädal" reported on Sunday.

My Parents Were Boat Refugees
Tiina Ann Kirss

Literary scholar Tiina Ann Kirss writes about her family, who were among the 75,000 Estonians who fled in 1944, to mark the unveiling of a new monument to those known as boat refugees on the Puise Peninsula, Lääne County.
Standing here on the Puise Cape as the child of two people who escaped Estonia in 1944, first of all, I realize that my parents did not escape to Sweden with the help of experienced ship captains in September of 1944.

Dance of the Dolphins
Indrek Lepson
See seiklus toimus aastal 1978. Proovin selgitada mõningaid merendussõnasid, et "maarahvale" anda parem ettekujutus toimunust.
Trim tab on pisikene eraldi rool, millega saab väikesi kursimuudatusi teha ilma pearooli liigutamiseta. Selle jaoks on eraldi väike rooliratas.
Snatch block, nn jalaplokk, on plokk, mis käib küljelt lahti, mille kaudu saab köie saata teise suunda.
Jenny (genoa) - suur fokkpuri. Winch - vints.
Cockpit - kokpit, koht ahtris, kus on rooliratas ja vintsid.
Halyard - vall (?), millega purjed tõmmakse üles.
Trades (tradewinds) - passaattuuled.
Watch - käekell ja vaht (mitte mullid).
Bells - kellalöök. Vanasti jagati merel aega poole tunni kaupa.
Sheeting, sheet on soot. Sheeting on soodiga purje timmimine, kas lased purje kaugemale välja või tõmbad lähemale, sõltuvalt tuule suunast ja kursist.
Kui keegi on "three sheets to the wind", siis ta on purjus.
Kirjutasin selle loo vist 30 aastat tagasi.

Legislation EANC is Currently Supporting
While Congress enters its pre-election recess, the Estonian American National Council (EANC) will stay in touch with Congressional staffers to ensure issues important to Estonian Americans aren’t forgotten as the elections become the focus of attention.
EANC actively advocates with Congressional offices to express support for legislation that impacts the security of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, and the broader European and transatlantic region.
We work closely with our sister organizations representing diaspora communities from the Baltic and central and eastern European countries through the Joint Baltic American National Committee (JBANC) and Central and East European Coalition (CEEC).

A memorial to Estonians who died fleeing their country by sea in 1944 in the face of invading Soviet forces, as well as to remember all those who fled, was formally unveiled on Puise beach, Lääne County on September 19th.
"An estimated 5,000 people entered the sea, not to return," Arnold Aljaste, head of the Estonian Memorial Association (Eesti Memento Liit) told ERR.
