Estonian Short Wins NYCTV Festival Best Actress Award
New York Estonian Eha Urbsalu's independent short film "A Thorn" actress Sophia Rose Turnio won the best actress prize at the NYC TV Festival. The film was also nominated in the categories of best short film, best director (Eha Urbsalu) and best cinematographer (Mikey Boyne).

Estonian Foods Showcased at Chicago Trade Show
On Nov. 18 and 19, four Estonian food manufacturers' products took part in the PLMA Private Label Trade Show at Chicago's Conference Centre: Eesti Pagar (Estonian Baker), Balbiino ice cream, Salvest baby foods and puree soups and local Estonian potato chip producer Balsnack were all well received.


Eesti Pank Issues €2 Coin for Centenary of 1st Estonian Language University
A new  two-euro commemorative coin and postage stamp dedicated to the centenary of the first Estonian language university were presented by Eesti Pank on November 19 in the museum of the University of Tartu. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment the Estonian-language University of Tartu, in the early days of the Republic of Estonia.


Teachers in Estonian Russian Schools Need Local Language Brush Up
Estonia's Language Inspectorate estimates that nearly one fifth of teachers working at local Russian-language general education schools do not meet the country's official language requirements. According to Irene Käosaar, director of the Integration Foundation, Estonia's current political indecision stands in the way of certain education advancements, which in turn has many Russian-language based elementary schools acting irresponsibly concerning teaching and acquisition of the official language.


Finnish Foundation Buying Up Tallinn Real Estate
Asuntosalkku Eesti OY and its subsidiary Linnakodu OÜ, owned by Finnish investors, is reported to have acquired over 500 rental apartments in Tallinn over a short time, which is ten times more than their initial purchases four years ago.
