Estonian Ambassador to the U.S. Jonatan Vseviov Receives Title of Lifetime Ambassador


On the eve of the 100th anniversary of the Tartu Peace Treaty, the President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid recognized the dedication of three Estonian diplomats: Eve-Külli Kala, Simmu Tiigi and Jonatan Vseviov,  awarding them a lifetime designation of the title of ambassador.

 

 

Estonian-Style Curd Cheesecake Competition at the NY Estonian House


At this year's baking contest at the NY Estonian House, bakers of Estonian-style curd cheesecake battled it out.

 

A total of seven people baked nine cakes and there were more than enough tasters and judges.

 

The winner was 8-year-old Leela Vellore.

 

 

Estonia Founder in New Religious Freedom Alliance


Estonia will be a founding member and active partner in the newly established International Religious Freedom Alliance, Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Reinsalu said. Initiated by the U.S., the International Religious Freedom Alliance was established in Washington, D.C. on February 5.

 

More than 20 states participate in the alliance as founders.

 

Reinsalu said Estonia sees the new alliance as an opportunity based on shared values to advance the protection of human rights as a whole.

 

Last year, Estonia also joined the Media Freedom Coalition launched by the United Kingdom which includes nearly 30 states.

 

On February 7, Reinsalu will attend the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. where President Donald Trump will give a speech.

 

 

Toronto-Born Riho Maimets Named Estonian Choir Composer of the Year


The Estonian Choral Association recently announced that Riho Esko Maimets, born in 1988 in Toronto and now living in Estonia, was chosen choir composer of the year. 

 

At last summer's jublilee  Song Festival, male choirs performed the song "Mu arm" ("My Love") by Maimets and the children's choirs sang "Rõõmulaul" ("Song of Joy"), arranged by Maimets from a folk song previously arranged by Riho Päts.
