Statue of Poet Kalju Lepik Unveiled

A statue of Estonian poet Kalju Lepik, who fled Estonian in 1944 and is considered to be one of the country's greatest poets in expressing longing for his homeland, was unveiled in his hometown of Koeru on the eve of the 100th anniversary of his birth.


Lepik is depicted as a young boy sitting on a boulder, reading.


The sculpture, situated in front of the local elementary school attended by Lepik, is the work of Elo Liiv.


Lepik lived in exile in Stockholm for decades, but immersed himself in the local literary and cultural scene when Estonia regained independence.


He wrote 13 collections of poetry.



Tartu Sauna Company HUUM Enters North American Market

Sauna company HUUM OÜ, based in Tartu, offers innovative sauna heaters which have received much praise both in Estonia and the international media, including for their eye-catching design.

The first HUUM heaters and controls specifically designed for North America have already been shipped.

Estonia Joins Leaders' Pledge for Nature

Estonia will join the Leaders' Pledge for Nature which unites countries around the world and international organisations in reversing the loss of biodiversity. In the pledge, countries commit to reverse biodiversity loss by 2030 and to help guide the environment to a path of recovery.



Trad.Attack! Wins Peoples' Choice Award

On October 2, "Ethno ladle" (Etnokulp) awards were presented at the Estonian Traditional Music Centre in Viljandi.


The public vote, with a record number of participants, resulted in the most awards going to the band Trad.Attack! and its member Jalmar Vabarna, who was also named Musician of the Year.
