World's Oldest Estonian Lives in New Jersey

Illa Toompuu, who will celebrate her 108th birthday on October 26, was born in St. Petersburg in 1912 and currently lives in Lakewood, New Jersey.


She holds the honorable title of the oldest Estonian in the world, following the passing in August of Marta Kivi in Rapla at the age of 108 and 201 days.




Virtual Three Seas Summit to Bring Together Leaders From Europe and America

On October 19, Estonia will host a virtual Three Seas summit, which will be attended by several Eastern and Central European heads of state, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.


The Three Seas Initiative (3SI) is a regional cooperation format that connects the 12 EU Member States between the Adriatic Sea, the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea.



EU Foreign Ministers Agree on Sanctions Against Lukashenko, Russian Officials

European Union foreign ministers agreed on imposing sanctions against President Aleksandr Lukashenko of Belarus and Russian officials during the European Union Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg on October 12.


The ministers agreed on imposing sanctions against Lukashenko in response to the situation in Belarus and against Russian officials in response to the poisoning of Russian opposition leader spokespeople for the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.



Homegrown Spy Thriller "O2" Brings Estonians Back to the Cinema

Estonian spy thriller "O2", set in the eve of World War Two, premiered in Tallinn on October 6, following eight years in the making.


The film's title derives from an abbreviation of the Army Headquarters' second department, which was Estonia's military intelligence unit at the time.


The movie is based on real-life events taking place in 1939, when Estonia was about to lose its independence.

The movie is an Estonian-Latvian-Lithuanian-Finnish co-production and was directed by Margus Paju, director of the successful young people's adventure movie "Supilinna salaselts".
