New Ministers of Education and Public Administration

Minister of Public Administration Jaak Aab will become the new Minister of Education replacing Mailis Reps who stepped down last week.

Anneli Ott, who led the Riigikogu's European Union Affairs Committee, will be appointed the new Minister of Public Administration.

Prime Minister Jüri Ratas announced the changes on November 24.

Former Education Minister Mailis Reps resigned last week after an article published by the newspaper Õhtuleht alleged the minister had been using her official ministry car for non-official purposes.

Fat Margaret Tower's Digital Solutions Win Pan-European Award

On November 20, the Estonian Maritime Museum was awarded the Heritage in Motion "Best Achievement Award" for their digital and audiovisual solutions in the Fat Margaret cannon tower's permanent exhibition "Towering Tales of the Sea". 

The awards ceremony took place online from the Science Centre GeoFort in the historical New Dutch Waterline.

The Fat Margaret Tower was closed for almost two years for large-scale reconstruction work and the creation of a new exposition.

The museum was reope-ned to visitors in November 2019.

Tallinn to Become Christmas Fairy Tale With Over 300 Light Installations

More than 300 light installations will be set up across Tallinn to light up the festive season.

There will be 100 new installations in addition to the usual lit-up trees, fountains and sculptures. 

One of the most spectacular and unique installations will be on Freedom Square.

"It is a novel and magnificent fountain of lights which will get bigger and more spectacular with every Advent and reach its full glory in time for the Christmas holidays," Tallinn mayor Mihhail Kõlvart said.

More than 30 installations will also light up Tallinn's Song Festival Grounds' Võlumaa ("Dreamland") light festival from December 4 to January 10.
