Estonia allocates €50,000 to Mitigate Humanitarian Crisis in South Sudan

On March 11, Estonian Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets participated in a high-level UN Security Council open debate on conflict and food security, organised by the US Presidency of the Council.


The session was mainly driven by the famine caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and conflicts in many parts of the world.


The minister’s statement highlighted the deteriorating humanitarian situation in South Sudan.



Heptathlete Lillemets 5th at European Indoor Championships and Other Sports News

Estonian track athlete Risto Lillemets finished fifth in the heptathlon at the European Athletics Indoor Championships last weekend in Torun, Poland with a score of 6,055 points.


At the same European Championship event, 21-year-old Estonian sprinter Karl Erik Nazarov set a new Estonian 60 m record in the semi-finals (6.62), but could not improve on his time and finished seventh in the final.

Estonian Nordic combined (cross-country skiing and ski jumping) athlete Kristjan Ilves finished 11th at the Large Hill event in Oberstdorf, Germany last week marking the best finish in the 24-year old's career so far.

After winning the latest round of the World Rally Championship (WRC) season, Estonian rally driver Ott Tänak has now eclipsed 1,000 points for his WRC career with his recent win at the Arctic Rally Finland.

Talented young swimmer, 14-year-old Eneli Jefimova from Sillamäe relocated to Tallinn a few years ago to practice and has now set several Estonian adult records.


One of them was in the 4 x 100 meter combined relay, where one of her teammates was Aleksa Gold.


Born in Toronto to an Estonian mother, (first generation Estonian Canadian Pille Leitham Gold from Montreal), Gold is now training in Tallinn and is currently the best Estonian-passport holding female backstroker.
