On March 13, during a working visit to the US, President Kersti Kaljulaid met with Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelo-si. They discussed security and defence cooperation, the situation in Ukraine, hybrid threats and bilateral Estonian-US cooperation.
Vaba Eesti Sõna to Celebrate Its 70th During Culture Days
On April 6 at 11 am, Vaba Eesti Sõna will celebrate the 70th anniversary since it was first published, at the New York Estonian House. Every-one is welcome to attend the conference dedicated to the occasion, enjoy some celebratory cake and take part in the annual Estonian Cultural Days.
7969 People Submitted E-Dictations on Native Language Day
On Estonia’s Native Lan-guage Day, a nationwide e-dictation competition was held for the 12th time. A record 7969 dictations (1500 more than last year) were sent to the Estonian Public Broad-casting’s Vikerraadio radio station via its website. The text of the dictation is read each year on Vikerraadio. Winners are named in 5 different categories: philologists, adults, students, people with another native language, Estonians li-ving abroad and hear-impaired people. The latter group are able to watch a video of the text being read in order to lip-read it.
New Arts Center to Open in Noblessner Port Area
On September 20, the new international Kai (Quay) Art Center will open its doors at the newly restored Noblessner port area in Tallinn with an international group exhibition as part of the Tallinn Photo Month.
Chinese Fund Prepared to Invest in Tallinn-Helsinki Tunnel
The Chinese Fund Touch-stone Capital Partners is rea-dy to invest 15 billion euros into the Tallinn-Helsinki tunnel project led by Peter Vester-backa. An initial agreement was signed on March 7. Touchstone will remain a minority shareholder, while the majority stake will remain in Finland.
