Estonia Sent Additional Diplomats to NY Ahead of UN Vote
Estonia sent additional diplomats to New York, who, together with officials already working there, are making final efforts to persuade representatives of other countries to give their vote to Estonia for non-permanent member of the UN Security Council on June 7. Ahead of the vote, President Kersti Kaljulaid and Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu will also arrive at UN Headquarters.
World’s Largest Estonian Flag Assembled in Põltsamaa
To celebrate the 135th anniversary of the Estonian flag, Põltsamaa parish invited everyone interested to collectively assemble the world’s largest blue, black and white flag on the evening before Estonian flag day on June 4. The human flag was formed on the Pajusi Road and a beautiful shot was captured with a drone. “We are proud that the first Estonian flag was sewn right here in Põltsamaa in 1884,” the assistant municipal governor said.
Estonian-Themed Travelling Exhibition Opened in Chicago
On June 1, a unique Estonian-themed traveling exhibition entitled “Masters of our Own Homes: Estonia at 100”, compiled by Vabamu, the Museum of Occupations and Freedom in Tallinn, opened in the Richard J. Daley Center Plaza in Chicago. Approximately 200 000 visitors saw the traveling exhibition in 2018 in Stanford, Boston, and Toronto. In 2019, the exhibition visits Chicago and Washington.
Song and Dance Celebration Flame Travelling Through Estonia
The jubilee song and dance celebration flame was lit on June 1 in Tartu and is travelling around Estonia for a month. The flame of the XXVII Song Festival and XX Dance Festival “Minu arm” (My Love), arrived first on Saaremaa island and will reach its destination, Kalev Stadium in Tallinn, on the evening of July 4.
