ESTO Kicked Off in Helsinki
When this newspaper goes to print, the first day of the XII ESTO world festival will have wrapped up in Helsinki Finland. Following two opening days in Helsinki, ESTO festivities move to Tartu on June 29 and 30 and will wrap up in Tallinn on July 1-4 before the start of the Song and Dance Celebration. Estonian National and Museum of Estonians Abroad Collaboration
On June 30, the exhibition “ESTO – Keeper of Estonian Heritage Worldwide” will be opened at the Estonian National Museum (ERM) as part of the special Esto Day at the museum. The exhibition is the collaborative work of ERM in Tartu and VEMU, the Museum of Estonians Abroad in Toronto and will be open until July 21.
Nordica Giving Up Its Passenger Business
Nordica announced last week that they are giving up their passenger business and will concentrate on subcontracting work for other airlines instead. The news come four years after the bankruptcy of Nordica’s predecessor, Estonian Air. The airline is closing five unprofitable routes and leaving the business risk of its three remaining ones to strategic partner LOT.
Magnus Kirt World Javelin Leader
After surpassing the 90 metre mark for the first time in his career and thereby breaking the Estonian record, Kirt improved his world lead in the javelin, setting a world-leading mark of 90.34 m at the Kuortane Games in Finland. That mark didn’t even last 48 hours, as the European bronze medallist surpassed his national record again with 90.61 m in Berlin.
