University of Tartu Improved its World Ranking
The University of Tartu (TÜ) has risen to its highest ever ranking, 285th position in the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings. The result is sixteen places higher than last year. Since 2014, the university has climbed 176 places in the rankings. TÜ has improved its ranking in four of the six indicators. The university’s reputation among academic staff has improved particularly significantly, with a rise of 28 places compared to last year. Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) has fallen to the group of 651-700. Tallinn University has remained in the group of those ranked 801-1000.
100 Years of Diplomatic Relations Between Estonia and Finland Celebrated
On June 8, Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu and Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto symbolically signed a document recognizing historical Estonian-Finnish diplomatic relations in Tallinn and Helsinki, respectively. Former ambassadors and key figures in the restoration of Estonia’s independence were present at the ceremony. “Finland was the first country to recognize the Republic of Estonia in 1920 after Estonia had signed the Tartu Peace Treaty with Soviet Russia,” Reinsalu recalled.
Estonian Meigo Märk Walked Through 22 Countries Around the Globe
Estonian Meigo Märk walked a total of 20,000 kilometers around the world, travelling through 22 countries in 4 years and 3 months. He also found a wife and married during the trip. Märk began his long walk on May 11, 2014 at the Laagri bus stop near Tallinn and the 20,000-kilometer walk was completed on August 4, 2018 on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. He is now planning a new circumglobal walking trek with his wife and baby daughter, although his goal is not to break any records, simply to experience and fulfill his dream.
