100 Years of Estonian-German Relations
On June 29, the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Estonian Embassy in Berlin was celebrated, marking the beginning of celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Estonian-German diplomatic relations.
President Kersti Kaljulaid and German President Frank Walter Steinmeier with both in attendance.
The Estonian embassy is in the same building at Hildebrandstrasse 5, where it was established a century ago.
Kaljulaid wrote: “Our embassy building in Berlin is historic – one of the few that has represented a country for 100 years.”
First Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Three Seas Initiative
On 30 June, Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu chaired the inaugural video meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Three Seas Initiative, where the involvement of the ministries of the participating countries was discussed.
The initiative’s goal is to bring together 12 EU Member States and partners to increase growth and energy security through infrastructure investment.
The meeting was an important milestone ahead of the October Three Seas Summit and Business Forum to be held in Tallinn.
50th NY Estonian Culture Days Rescheduled for April 2021
The Foundation for Estonian Arts and Letters has announced that the anniversary celebrations of the Estonian Culture Days in New York, which were originally postponed until September, will unfortunately not be held in 2020.
The Foundation hopes to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the event in April 2021.
56 Percent of Estonians Don’t Find Coverage of Politics Neutral
Media coverage of politics in major Estonian publications is not neutral, according to 56 percent of respondents of a survey commissioned in June by the Institute for the Study of Societal Issues (Ühiskonnauuringute Instituut), which also showed that supporters of the ruling coalition are particularly critical of the media, ERR reports.
