Estonia Initiates UN Security Council Discussion Concerning Belarus
On August 18, Estonia and the United States led a UN Security Council discussion about the situation in Belarus and its possible implications for peace and security in Europe. In his speech, Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu expressed serious concern about the use of excessive force by the Belarussian authorities in peaceful demonstrations triggered by the falsification of election results.
Music Video for the Musical “Singing Revolution” Filmed at Song Festival Grounds
On Monday, August 17, the music video for the musical “Singing Revolution”, which is set to premiere in Los Angeles next spring, was filmed for the song “Never Forget Who You Are”, performed by Estonian-based actor and singer Kristi Roosmaa, who resides in New York.
The musical was written by Broadway veteran Tony Spinosa and James Bearhart, inspired by actual historical events.
Estonian Film Wins at Melbourne Film Festival and is Nominated for Oscar
Estonian director Eeva Mägi’s short film “The Weight of All the Beauty” (Estonian title: “Süda Sõrve sääres”) won the best short documentary prize at the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) on Sunday, August 16.
The prize gives the documentary the right to run for an Oscar without participating in a national competition.
Human Chains to be Formed in Support of Belarusian Opposition
On the anniversary of the Baltic Chain on Sunday, August 23, starting at 7 pm, human chains will be formed in the three Baltic states in support of the Belarusian opposition.
In Estonia, the event will take place in Tallinn, where a chain will be formed from Vabaduse (Freedom) Square to the Embassy of Belarus.
