The Estonian Society of Los Angeles is very pleased and honored to celebrate this important milestone for Estonia with a luncheon under the Air Force One at the Reagan Library.
The Estonian Society of Los Angeles cordially invites fellow Estonians and friends of Estonia to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Day of Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Estonia on Friday, August 20th, 2021 at 12:30 pm PDT at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum (40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley, CA 93065).
As a country affected by Russia, – “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall” – words spoken by President Ronald Reagan played a very important part in Estonian Independence. Known as the Berlin Wall Speech, made June 12, 1987 and viewed by the entire world while Reagan stood at the Brandenburg Gate. This is one of the reasons we choose to celebrate at The Reagan Library.
The speech included these words:
“There is one sign the Soviets can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of freedom and peace. General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”
Also, 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of the inauguration of Ronald Reagan as America’s 40th president. It’s a year of re-examining his legacy, re-telling one of America’s greatest stories, re-living a remarkable run as President, and introducing an icon to a new generation.
Our celebration includes a special guest and opening speech, a luncheon under the Air Force One, a docent-led tour of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and amazing Air Force One Pavilion, plus a self-guided tour of a spectacular, special exhibit: “FBI – From Al Capone To Al-Qaeda”
Space is limited.
