VES/ERR News – Sofi Oksanen’s play "Purge," on which her bestselling novel is also based, made its New York debut at the La MaMa experimental theatre on February 10.
This is the first Finnish play to hit the stage in the United States, news agency STT reported. The first Estonian play – Paul-Eerik Rummo’s “Cinderellagame” – was staged also in La MaMa already in 1979.
Based on Estonia’s recent history, the drama was staged by Zishan Ugurlu, La MaMa's artistic director, who has brought many international plays to the US.
In May "Purge" will move to Scena theatre in Washington.
