Washington, DC (JBANC) — The ninth Joint Baltic American National Com-mittee, Inc. (JBANC) confe-rence being held in Washington, DC on April 1-2, 2011 will commemorate fifty years of activism for the Baltic cause.
JBANC, founded in 1961, will hold its half-century conference at the Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill: http://washingtoncourthotel.com.
The President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers will be giving the keynote address at the conference on Saturday, April 2.
Friday's program will include a congressional briefing and evening discussion and reception.Main conference themes will center on:
1) retrospective look at accomplishments over the past 50 years, including in the past 20 years since the restoration of Baltic independence;
2) current transatlantic and security issues – energy and cyber security, military and economic concerns;
3) activism and ongoing projects – support for democracy in Belarus; the Stalin statue controversy, etc.
The line-up of speakers includes British journalist (The Economist) Edward Lucas, foreign affairs analyst Paul Goble, experts from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, and many others.
