The Arkaader English VOD platform is now live, inviting cinephiles, estophiles and the Estonian diaspora worldwide to discover and rediscover the Estonian film legacy at www.arkaader.ee.
Arkaader.ee, a video-on-demand platform dedicated to showcasing Estonian film heritage, celebrated its first year with the opening of an English version of the platform for international viewers.
The platform was brought to life in a collaboration between the National Archives of Estonia and the Estonian Film Institute to provide easy access to the treasure trove of Estonian cinema.
Arkaader.ee is the most diverse Estonian film streaming platform, that makes the nation’s film heritage permanently available in all its genres: restored old classics and new feature films released from cinema distribution, plenty of acclaimed Estonian animation, short films worth discovering, student films, amateur films, commercials, video art, newsreels, and documentaries from the past and present. In the first year of operation, 3,300 audiovisual works have been made available on Arkaader.
The film vault lets viewers explore films by genre, while the timeline view shows the evolution of Estonian cinema from the days of the pioneers to the contemporary film scene. Carefully curated collections lead the way to thematic journeys and a film map helps discover feature films and newsreels via shooting locations.
The new English-language view of the portal makes an expansive selection of Esto-nian film archives easily accessible to international film enthusiasts and enables the descendants of Esto-nians living abroad to strengthen their connection with the Estonian language and culture through the medium of film.
