The EANC Election Committee announces elections for the Estonian American National Council’s XXI Council, as authorized by the current XX Council. Members are elected for four years.
EANC, representing the interests of Estonian Americans, works to preserve, promote and support our Estonian cultural heritage and U.S. Estonian communities, as well as maintain contacts in Washington and elsewhere in support of Estonia’s well-being. The Council size can vary from 20 to 50 members, depending on the number of candidates.
Those not immediately elected to the Council remain as alternates and are welcome to participate in Council activities. The Council meets at least once a year to review past activities and to vote on the upcoming year’s budget and activity plan. Current plans are for the annual meeting to take place Sept. 27-28, 2014, in Stamford, CT.
Candidates must live in the United States and be at least 21 years old on the day of the election, and either possess Estonian citizenship or be eligible for it, belong to the Estonian community through family relationship, or certify on the election ballot to being Estonian.
Application forms and further information can be obtained from the Election Committee and the EANC website (www.estosite.org). The application form must be submitted with brief biographical information, a statement why the applicant is interested in Council membership, and a photo. Applications must be postmarked by March 20, 2014.
A final list of candidates will appear in the newspaper Vaba Eesti Sõna, together with the election date. Ballots will be sent to all addresses in the EANC database.
