Aleksandra Piibe
Last fall “The Bay Eagle” of the Califonia’s El Segundo High School had an extensive interview with Aleksandra Piibe, a senior, described as “hästi kursis” or rather well-versed.
The interviewer, Anita Chauhan states that Aleksandra has excelled in every facet of her high school career, from sports to academics and in extracurricular activities.
Aleksandra’s grandparents were born in Estonia. Along with many visits to Estonia, Aleksandra also spent the 2013 summer studying the Estonian lanugage at Tallinn University.
We learn from the interview that she was an energetic child who enjoyed participating in many activites: sports, piano lessons, singing in a choir, ballet and drama productions; belonged to the swim team, Brownies and Girl Scouts and was also a Junior Lifeguard.
At six years of age she started focusing on tennis. She has played on the girl’s varsity team for four years and claims that beside focusing, she plays all out.
Aleksandra enjoys alternative rock music by bands like The Black Keys, Muse and Foster the People with her favourite singers being Milky Chance and Hozier.
Her senior year’s theme “New Alternatives in Energy: Ingenuity and Innovation”, is very broad in some subject areas such as Art, Music, and Social Science, but Aleksandra says that she has found it very interesting to study different historical periods which relate to these subjects. The team is cohesive and members are all supportive of each other, so she believes it will do well during the competition as well as having fun.
Being a busy senior Aleksandra spends whatever free time she finds with friends, eats ethnic food, watches Netflix, visits art museums, reads good novels and travels.
The fondest memories of high school for her is the tennis, specially the traveling to tennis matches with teammates. However, her role model is her mom, who she says is selfless, kind and intelligent.
Having an offer from Colby College which is a NCAA Division III in tennis, she still needs to apply and be accepted.
For her future, Aleksandra has not made up her mind yet, but is considering a career in medicine. However, having many interests, attending a liberal arts college seems a great fit for her.
The interview states that Aleksandra is an outstanding student who has bolstered El Segundo High School’s reputation with her skills in tennis and academic talents.
Her abilities will take her far in any pursuit she undertakes in the future. We wish Aleks good luck, or “edu,” in the fall and can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!
