Agda Artna was born in Tartu, Estonia on October 19, 1930. The family fled Estonia at the height of WWII and settled in Sweden.
In 1947, the family immigrated to Canada, where Agda earned an undergraduate degree from McMaster University.
On 1961, she became one of the first women in Canada to complete a nuclear physics PhD.
Agda held jobs at the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TN.
Agda and Leslie were married on March 10, 1967, after which, both worked at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, and settled in Mount Vernon, VA.
In retirement, she traveled throughout Europe with her husband and doted on her granddaughters.
Agda is remembered for her extensive volunteer work; puzzle skills, matzah ball soup and exquisite knitting.
