The Gallery of Estonia won third prize at Expo Milano 2015 Awards in the category of Exhibition Design among the pavilions with a surface smaller than 2,000 square meters. The gold medal in the category went to Austria, and second place to Iran.
The international jury of Expo Milan 2015 bestowed on Estonia the bronze medal at an official ceremony on October 30.
The world fair took place in Italy from May 1 to October 31.
“We are extremely happy and proud of having received this acknowledgement, which represents one more proof of the international value of Estonian design and creativity.
The award we have obtained today is not only the result of a successful concept, but is due to its fulfillment and sharing with the most brilliant minds of our country” said Elena Natale, Gallery of Estonia director.
The exhibition spaces were designed as a collaboration between the architectural studio KTA and the creative agency AKU, and produced by the creative media agency IDEA and the production company Produktsioonigrupp.
The pavilion was visited by a record-breaking three million people.
It exhibited 40 Estonian companies and organizations.
Participation in EXPO 2015 cost Estonia an estimated 3.7 million euros.
In other categories, gold medals went to Japan for exhibition design, Germany and Vatican for theme development, and France and the United Kingdom for architecture and landscape design.
In addition, the jury handed out medals to countries that opted for a space in shared cluster pavilions, which were grouped according to certain themes.
