No need to wait any longer: as Estonia is not the land where last-minute political earthquakes can be expected to revolutionize consolidated choice, today we feel like telling you the name of the new President of the Estonian Republic.
A little less than three months before elections will decide the future President of the country, it seems already clear that Mr. Toomas Henrik Ilves will not miss the honor of a second mandate to guide Estonia also during the next five years.
The seal on his re-election arrived on Saturday, May 21st, when a meeting with IRL representatives assured President Ilves the support of the party – a vital one for guaranteeing him the needed majority for keeping his Presidency.
Although some rumors wanted IRL to be thinking of another candidate, the fifty votes (out of a total of 57) backing Ilves re-election did not come as a surprise – especially since the former member of the Estonian Social-Democratic party and now President of the Republic already won his first mandate (also) thanks to IRL support.
No luck, then, for any of those who thought and hoped to see changes in the higher levels of Estonian politics: after Mr. Andrus Ansip managed to be reconfirmed as Prime Minister, the reelection of President Ilves should finally close the electoral circle showing how Estonians seem to have full confidence and support on who governed them during the worse times since its independence.
