The exciting multidisciplinary performance “Dawn till Dusk” brought together a full house of spectators to the New York Estonian House on June 4.
In performance featured four dancers and three musicians, the show was motivated by Estonian mythology and the folk calendar, which could be both seen and heard. The event was led by Diina Tamm and Valev Laube, starring Victoria Vikström (dance), Jose Amor Christensen (dance), Sean Mejia (dance), Charlie Rauh (guitar), and David Fletcher (bass, cajon).
Musically, you could hear old archival recordings, folk tunes as well as Valev Laube’s own work. The most memorable dance numbers for the audience were the number presented on high platforms celebrating Kadri and Mart’s Day, the dance number with sauna whiskers, and the Christmas ram. You can read more about the audience’s impressions in the next issue of the Free Estonian Word.
The main sponsor of the performance was the Estonian American National Committee. Additional thanks go out to Amest Foods, The VL Studios, the New York Estonian House, and nearly 30 private supporters from all over the US.
