Dear Fellow Estonian American and Friend of Estonia! December, 2015
Last December EANC announced a special fundraising drive to raise $200,000 by the end of 2015. The goal: to enable us to better counteract the actions and lies of the Russian propaganda machine, and to strengthen our efforts in Washington DC on the political front. Since then, Russia has broadened its global military incursions, drawing U.S. attention away from its continued threat to the Baltics, East Europe and to Ukraine’s sovereignty.
What can EANC do?
EANC actively participates with other East and Central European and Baltic organizations to inform American policy makers of issues of concern to Estonian Americans. We meet regularly with the State Department, Congressional leaders, and with the Baltic embassies in Washington. Thanks to your donations, we will fill a full-time position in January to accelerate these efforts.
Where do your donations go?
In addition to funding our political efforts, your donations to EANC also enabled us to support the following organizations and events in 2015:
• Estonian Boy Scouts and Girl Guides and Järvemetsa scout camp in Lakewood NJ
• Children’s summer camp
• Joint Baltic American National Committee (JBANC)
• JBANC Conference “History Repeated: Baltics and Eastern Europe in Peril?” in Washington DC. EANC also paid for four young Estonian Americans to attend this prestigious Baltic affairs forum.
• Baltic Diaspora Exhibit in Philadelphia, drawing on the memorabilia of families and individuals who lived through the WWII experience.
• Nordic Press / Vaba Eesti Sõna
• Support for humanitarian aid to Ukraine
• Estonian Archives in U.S., including travel expenses of two archivists from the Estonian National Archives in Tartu to help organize the Lakewood NJ collections
• Scandinavian film festival in Los Angeles
• Editing of the history: “Estonian Americans: Exiles in a Land of Promise,” to be published Fall 2016
• Estonian-themed histories, films and memoirs such as the film “Baltic University” by Helga Merits
• Cultural events such as Mid-West Estonian Days (KLENK), and LEP-Whistler.
We ask you to make as generous a gift as you can! THANK YOU ! — EANC Board of Directors
