Siim Preiman, Sarah Nõmm, Eri Rääsk, and Mirjam Varik arrived at the Venice Institute of Contemporary Art a few days ago, and will do research, documentation, performance, and art while here until May 10.
We’re very pleased to host these accomplished artists. The residency that ViCA is sponsoring is part of a 3-week internship from the Estonian Academy of Arts as part of their Master’s program. As classmates, their partnership is based on their friendship, but importantly, for the purposes of this project, on their individually unique but intertwined focus, as it relates to their generational transition from occupation under the Soviet Union, to the influence of time on the psyche of Estonians, and the ability, and even need, to look at their home from afar. Siim is a writer/curator, who loves to create relationships through cooking. Sarah is a sculptor and vintage artifact collector. Eri is an artist and innkeeper. Mirjam is a photographer and graphic artist who often focuses on the family.
We’ll look forward to publishing the results of their work as they move forward.
