On Sunday February 26th many of the Arizona Estonian families and friends gathered together to celebrate the 94th Anniversary of Estonian Independence as they have done over the past many years.
For the third year in a row the event was hosted at the home of Jim and Linda Abbott at their lovely home in Mesa, a suburb of Phoenix. As always everyone brought some food that included Estonian dishes like verivorst, sült, kilu sandwiches, roosa-manna, along with many other items.
During the festivities Linda Abbott played the Estonian Anthem on her violin while everyone sang three verses of the song. With temperatures around 80 F in bright sunlight everyone had a great time and enjoyed the annual event in an area of the USA where the Estonian population is relatively sparse. Nonetheless, it appears we are somewhat always connected. In fact I went to the www.GENI.com family tree page and disco-vered that Linda Abbott was a distant (non-blood) maternal relative of mine thru a number of marriages over the decades from back in Estonia. Of course if one goes far enough back in time I suppose we are all related. 🙂
