The concert will highlight music by Estonian Composer Arvo Pärt and will also be the occasion of the launch of the new CD by Vox Clamantis: The Deer’s Cry (ECM Records).
The second ECM New Series album to fully showcase the pure-toned Estonian vocal group Vox Clamantis is devoted to compositions by their great countryman, Arvo Pärt – whose music has been the most performed globally of any living composer over the past five years.
Two premiere recordings appear with classic a cappella works and rarely recorded material including three pieces with instrumental accompaniment.
Vox Clamantis comprises musicians with different backgrounds – singers, composers, instrumentalists and conductors – who share a common interest in the Gregorian chant, early polyphony and contemporary music.
Many Estonian composers – among them Arvo Pärt, Helena Tulve and Erkki-Sven Tüür – have written for Vox Clamantis.
Vox Clamantis’s artistic director and conductor is Jaan-Eik Tulve.
The New York City concert is supported and initiated by the #1 Arvo Pärt music fan, the President of Estonia, Toomas Hendrik Ilves.
