Hans and Karin Ruus have been mainstays of the Cleveland Estonian Community, ensuring that our small group of Estonians continues to function.
They have always worked together in support of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Eesti Selts, the Baltic Committee of Cleveland, and for nearly 40 years planned and organized the Estonian Christmas Party.
Hans was a member of the Estonian Freedom Fighters and the choir. Karin is a poet.
The anniversary party at a local German restaurant was attended by more than 40 friends and relatives.
Hans opened the program with a brief history of their early years as a couple and Erika Puussaar provided insight into their vast activities in support of the Cleveland Estonian community.
Pastor Peeter Pirn and his wife Trina sang two songs written by Karin, one for her parent’s 50th anniversary and one for her and Hans’ 50th.
Toomas Tubalkain presented an explanation and translation of Mesipuu by Juhan Liiv.
As only appropriate for a marriage that has lasted 65 years, Karin had the last word, thanking all attendees, especially those who travelled from afar to attend.
