Youth Attend JBANC Conference Thanks to Grant
The Estonian American National Council congratulates the 5 outstanding young people who were selected as EANC grantees to attend the 13th JBANC Conference “The Baltics @ 101: Remembering the Past, Shaping the Future” on Nov. 9 in Washington. DC. They also attended the evening’s Awards Gala and took advantage of the opportunity to speak with Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas and Estonian Ambassador to the U.S. Jonatan Vseviov, among others.
Seabrook Documentary Film Project Looking for Stories
Dutch-Estonian historical documentary filmmaker Helga Merits’ interest in the topic of Baltic refugees after WWII (The Refugee Children of Geislingen, 2018) continues with her Seabrook NJ project. The Foundation for Estonian Arts and Letters supported her research trip to Lakewood in September, and she will be visiting Seabrook in May 2020 to gather more stories and information for the documentary on Estonians who lived and worked there.
Government to Support Swedish-Estonian Cooperation Fund
On November 21, the allocation of EUR 150,000 from the reserve of the Government of the Republic for the initial capital contribution of the Swedish-Estonian Cooperation Fund, as proposed by Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu, was discussed and approved by the government.
Singing Revolution Broadway Musical Tells Forbidden Love Story
Estonian choreographer Märt Agu, who was recently in Washington, DC, spoke to Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) about ongoing rehearsals of the “Singing Revolution” themed musical, saying the Estonian liberation by song story will be an attractive production for Americans as well. Broadway musical producer Tony Spinosa was inspired to write the musical following a trip to Tallinn. There are a total of 22 cast members in the “Singing Revolution.The Musical”, including several Broadway veterans.
