bbn.ee – Statistics compiled by Estravel indicate that the decline in the number of air passengers and direct flights has caused an increase in the prices of plane tickets from Tallinn to European capitals.
The prices of plane tickets with taxes have increased to nearly all of the most popular European destinations. For example, if in 2008 the average plane ticket to London cost 5,089, in the first nine months of 2009 the average ticket cost 6,014 kroons. This is almost 20% more.
A plane ticket from Tallinn to Paris cost an average of 4,620 kroons in 2008 while this year the average price is 5,078 kroons, the price is almost 10% more expensive.
Mauri Saarend, Estravel’s IATA sales director, commented the main reasons for the price increase is a smaller number of direct flights from Tallinn and the decrease in the number of discount campaigns carried out by airlines. Estravel expects the prices to decrease in the next three months.
The number of air passengers in Tallinn Airport has fallen significantly this year. According to the Tallinn Airport, in September 118,680 passengers departed from Tallinn – 27.8% less than during the same month last year.
