Local skier selected to exclusive training school
Duluth-native Katie Vesterstein was selected to train at the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Total Educational and Athletic Model Academy in Park City, Utah.
The Team Academy was developed by USSSA to provide an academic solution to high school-aged athletes in national team programs who are training and competing full time.
Vesterstein went to Park City July 8-15 for physical conditioning at the U.S. Ski Team Center of Excellence and will travel to New Zealand in August to train with the U.S. Men’s World Cup Ski team.
Vesterstein’s family plans to move Sept. 1 to join her in Park City.
Her grandfather, Paul Vesterstein adds that during the coming ski season, Katie will be competing every weekend either in the US, Canada or Europe and maybe even in Asia.
In 2016 she will be able to represent Estonia in the Alpine World Championships and if everything goes as planned she will be part of the US Olympic team in 2018.
