As of February 24, 2012, Professor Helmi L. Lutsep, M.D. is a member of the board, the Estonian American Fund announced.
Dr. Lutsep is presently Professor and Vice Chair of Neurology at Oregon Health and Science University and Associate Director of the Oregon Stroke Center. She is on the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Neurology stroke section and on the board of the Western States Stroke Consortium.
Dr. Lutsep is a Magna Cum Laude graduate in Chemistry and Biology from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN.
She received the M.D. degree from the Mayo Medical School, Rochester, MN in 1988. From 1988 to 1992, she was a neurology resident at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. Dr. Lutsep was on behavioral neurology fellowship at the University of California, Davis from 1992 to 1995, and at Stanford University on the cerebrovascular disease fellowship, 1995-1996. Board certifications include National Boards and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
In her role as a clinical trialist, Dr. Lutsep has served on multiple steering and advisory boards and has chaired safety and publication committees for multi-center trials. Her research has focused on the use of devices in stroke treatment.
The Estonian American Fund has been active in the transfer of medical technology and physician training in Estonia since 1990. It is in these areas that Dr. Lutsep’s expertise will make an invaluable contribution.
