The University of Tartu rose and the Tallinn University of Technology fell in the latest QS World University Rankings.
Tartu is 379th while the Tallinn school (not to be confused with Tallinn University) was between 501 and 550.
Just two years ago, Tartu was under 500, while last year it was 461-470.
QS is considered one of two major rankings of universities. The Shanghai rankings are the other.
Tallinn Tech has highlighted the Professional University Rankings rankings, which places the school 10th among European technical universities and 138th in the world (out of 500).
Tartu is considered relatively strong in the humanities (302nd in the world). In particular the research by media and communication scholars is ranked in the top 100 in the world. Research in history, archaeology and modern languages is in the top 200.
Of universities in the region, the University of Helsinki is the best, according to QS – 67th in the world.
