ERR News – A film by Estonian director Tanel Toom has made the list of 10 films still in the running for best short film at next year’s Academy Awards.
“The Confession,” a tragic story of a nine-year-old and a prank gone wrong, was one of 76 films submitted for the award, rus.err.ee reported. The final list of three to five nominees in the category will be announced in Los Angeles on January 25.
The Tallinn-born Toom is no stranger to awards. “The Confession” won the honorary foreign film prize at the 2010 Student Academy Awards and Toom’s fourth short film, “The Second Coming,” was named best European short at the Archipelago International Film Festival in 2009.
After graduating from Tallinn University in 2005, Toom directed commercials and worked as an assistant director. He is now studying at the prestigious National Film and Television School near London.
