Upcoming Folklore Performance at NY Estonian House
A new performance created by local NY Estonians Diina Tamm and Valev Laube featuring four dancers and three musicians will premiere at the NY Estonian House on June 4 at 8 pm. ”From Dawn Til Dusk” is a unique multidisciplinary performance that introduces Estonian mythology, traditions, and holidays. Freestyle Skier Kelly Sildaru Barbie Doll Unveiled
A Barbie doll modelled after Estonian freestyle skier Kelly Sildaru was unveiled at an event in Kadriorg on May 25, making Sildaru the first Estonian to be immortalized as the iconic doll. The Kelly Barbie was created as part of the Dream Gap Project, a worldwide initiative launched in 2019 aimed at using positive role models to help foster young girls’ positive self-image. (Pg 1)
Estonian Restaurants Awarded Michelin Stars
Estonian restaurants that made the 2022 Michelin Guide were revealed on May 25. Estonia became the first Baltic country to be featured in the Michelin Guide. Michelin inspectors highlighted 31 restaurants in total, with one Michelin star awarded to two of them: NOA Chef’s Hall and 180° by Matthias Diether. Five restaurants were found worthy of the Big Gourmand designation for their price/quality ratio: NOA, Härg, Fellin, Lore Bistroo, Mantel ja Korsten. Two restaurants received the Michelin green star for their dedication to sustainable gastronomy: Põhjaka Manor and Fotografiska. (Pg 3)
Thousands Sing for Ukraine in Mass Choir
Thousands of singers from across Estonia gathered at the Song Festival Grounds in Tallinn on May 22 to sing a new choral arrangement of the Ukrainian folk song “Oi u luzi chervona kalyna” (“Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow”). The video ”Thousands Sing for Ukraine” can be seen on YouTube. (Pg 5)
