Estonia’s Minister of Culture Tiit Terik is visiting New York from March 29 to April 2, where he will participate in the Estonian Culture Days and meet with members of the Estonian diaspora and Estonian cultural ambassadors. (Pg 1)
Estonia Wins BBC Audio Drama Award
The winners of the 11th BBC Audio Drama Awards 2022 were announced at a ceremony in the Radio Theatre, BBC Broadcasting House, on March 25. The Lion (Lõvi) by Martin Algus, adapted by Andres Noormets, producer Andres Noormets, ERR Estonian Public Broadcasting, won the Best European Drama award. Wrestler Epp Mäe Qualifies for European Championship Final
Women’s freestyle wrestler Epp Mäe has qualified for the finals in her category at the European Championships in Budapest, Hungary, after a 10:0 win over Catalina Axente of Romania. Mäe, the reigning European champion, had previously defeated Enrica Rinaldi of Italy in the women’s 76 kg quarter-finals. Mäe is now set to face local competitor Bernadett Nagy in the final next Thursday. Mäe was crowned European champion last year when she overcame Natalia Vorobieva of Russia in the final.
How Estonians Spoke 2000, 147, and 45 Years Ago
Entertaining and educational sketches were filmed for Estonian Independence Day this year which featured examples of how the Estonian language sounded during various historic periods. The clips were made in cooperation with Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) and the Estonian Institute, to show how the Estonian language has changed and developed over the centuries.
