I just wanted to share some photos from our Volmer family annual blood sausage making…every year all the men in the family get together to create this wonderful tradition.
I am the granddaughter of Estonian grandparents and recently married into a Mexican heritage family so was great having my husband join in the Estonian tradition! So this year the feast will include the Mexican Christmas tradition of tamales and Estonian tradition of blood sausage!
Blood sausage has been made in this Volmer family kitchen in Beavercreek, Ohio for many, many years!
My uncle stated during the process that when his father passes away (as his father has not been in the best state of health recently), we will have to rip out the kitchen and move it to his basement so we can continue the tradition of cooking blood sausage in this kitchen for many more years!
The other thought was when they have to sell the house, the new owners will have to promise not to change-/upgrade the kitchen and must allow us once a year before Christmas to come in and use the kitchen to make our blood sausage!
Hopefully we will not have to implement any of these actions any time soon!
My Uncle receives your weekly newspaper and I found them while I was over photographing the Tom, Heino, Paavo and Mike cooking!
Hope you enjoy the photos of three generations….we should have 4 generations but the youngest Volmer boy was over playing at a friend’s house.
