A joint celebration is being planned to recognize the 105th anniversary of Estonian Independence Day, the 60th anniversary of the Washington Estonian Society and the 50th anniversary of Pillerkaar, the Washington area venerable folk dance troupe.
The celebration will occur on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm.
The event will be held at the Latvian Lutheran Church Community Hall, 400 Hurley Avenue, Rockville, MD 20850, that serves as the home of the Washington Estonian School and that has been the site of many past Estonian-American community events. To please the Estonian-American palate, a light buffet catered by Mikko Nordic Fine Foods will be served during the social hour.
In addition to the guest speaker, the Honorable Kristjan Prikk, Ambassador from the Republic of Estonia to the United States, the program will feature the first Washington area production of “Dawn Till Dusk,” a unique multidisciplinary performance that fuses together dance and musical interpretations of Estonian mythology and folk calendar traditions that have shaped modern-day Estonia’s cultural identity.
The family-friendly folk-inspired performance is directed by two Estonian-born artists, Diina Tamm and Valev Laube.
